inPolice everywhere can take a lesson from the social media department of Newry police station in Northern Ireland. The department posted to their Facebook page that they had become aware of and cancelled an illegal outdoor rave on July 2, prompting angry comments from disappointed punters, and a response dripping in sarcasm from whomever is responsible for the police station's Facebook page, accumulating 650 Likes to date (as reported by Dazed).
"Seriously we have ruined every young person's summer in the whole world ever by telling you not to go to an unlicensed, unregulated carry on in a field in the middle of the countryside which just happens to be close to a quarry, how mean are we?" the police wrote.
"Perhaps your summer would be better if we let this go ahead and you go so off your face on drink and drugs that somehow you thought it was a good idea to try and fly off the cliff edge into the quarry. Excellent plan, I say not. Who's [sic] summer would that make so much better? Or better still how good would the summer be if you were searched going to this and we found your stash of drugs then we took you to court and you got a conviction for drugs offences and maybe a prison sentence…if you don't like what we post on here to keep YOUR community safe I suggest you unlike us."
Newry police aren't the only ones having a crack at a sense of humour; Adelaide police tweeted a series of terrible dad jokes from Big Day Out earlier this year, employing the power of bad puns and band names to send punters such messages as, "If you find yourself in a @PearlJam at #BigDayOut #Adelaide, don't hesitate to ask police for help," and "If someone's shooting you DZ Deathrays or giving you the Beady Eye at #BigDayOut #Adelaide, don't take the bait. Just walk away." Oh dear.
