By now you've probably seen Brazilian defender David Luiz's tearful interview on live television conducted just a few minutes after Brazil lost to Germany 7-1. Naturally, it didn't take the Internet long to turn Luiz's emotional speech into a hilarious gag with fake subtitles poking fun at Tottenham, Fulham, and teammate Maicon.
In case you're not familiar with Luiz and need some context for the punchlines, here you go:
1. Luiz has a reputation for bombing forward and sometimes neglecting his defensive duties (though he did score two goals in the World Cup, including a stunning free kick against Colombia)
2. Maicon was considered by many to be one of the best fullbacks in the world until then-Tottenham winger Gareth Bale torched him in the 2011 Champions League. Tottenham fans chanted "taxi for Maicon," because he couldn't keep up.
3. Brazilian midfielder Paulinho plays for Tottenham (now without Bale), which finished sixth in the Premier League and occasionally lost games by huge margins.
4. Chelsea sold Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain this summer for a reported £50 million, making him the most expensive defender in history of the game.
5. Luiz has a "home in Springfield" because he's clearly Sideshow Bob.
